You are invited to participate in a 60-minute in-person interview to evaluate a building proposal for the U of I Arboretum, using VR.

Participation in this study will take about 60 minutes. Your participation will involve presenting you a design for an interpretive center at the Arboretum through three different modes of architectural representation: architectural drawings and renderings, a physical model, and a virtual reality representation. Following this, three brief exercises will be conducted in which you'll be asked to evaluate the building proposal and express your experience of the current design.

Below are a number of immersive views of a design proposal for an interpretive center at the University of Illinois Arboretum.

An interpretive center is a place focused on disseminating knowledge about natural and/or cultural heritage. The main purpose of this proposal is to provide an indoor gallery space for changing exhibitions about the campus, the broader Illinois landscape, and plant research being conducted at the U of I. This facility will also serve as a space for class meetings, small lectures, and other events.

This design is to serve as an icon, to represent the collective essence of the programs at the U of I Arboretum. As implied by its name, it employs multiple strategies to subtly instantiate itself as lasting addition to the existing context.
